Brochure

The brochure aims to give individuals ideas on how they can volunteer with the Make-A-Wish foundation. All are invited to volunteer however they can, therefor I have added information for both adults and children. The brochure was created on InDesign.

The PSA aims to influence the audience to volunteer by visually seeing the impact their help can have on the wish kids. This video was created on iMovie.

This PR project was created as a class assignment with the objective being to create a campaign for a non-for -profit organization. In this case I chose to create a campaign for the Make-A-Wish foundation with the message being geared towards volunteering. The Make-A-Wish foundation believes that by volunteering we can inspire each other to make a difference in the lives of those that need it most.

Sub: Leukemia Patient’s Wish to Be On TV

To: Carolyn Long, broadcaster of KCTV5 news.

Hello Mrs. Carolyn Long,

I work for the Make-A-Wish Foundation for the state of Missouri and have recently been in contact with Jonathan Smith, a 6-year-old boy who has been diagnosed with Leukemia. Make-A-Wish Foundation, as you know grants the wishes of children with life threatening diseases. Jonathan’s wish is to not only be on TV but also to have the chance to meet you in person.

I would love to invite you to an event we will be hosting for Jonathan at Union Station, his favorite place in Kansas City. I think this would be a great segment to have Jonathan featured during KCTV5’s 4 o’clock news. The ultimate goal is to inspire members in the community to volunteer, make a difference in the lives of people in their community and make a difference in the lives of children like Jonathan.

Jonathan’s Jamboree will be on Nov. 5 from noon to 2 p.m. at Union Station. There will be live music from local bands, carnival games for other children, a photo booth, and many more activities. Simply having you come to the event and visit with Jonathan as well as interviewing volunteers for this event would be more than enough. I am available anytime Wednesdays through Fridays before noon to further discuss details or answer questions.

Thank you,

Carolyn Rorer.

6-Year-Old Wishes To Be Garbage Man and Inspires Community

SACRAMENTO, Calif., (Sept. 30, 2016)- The Sacramento community came together Sept. 20 with the Make-A-Wish foundation to grant Ethan’s wish of becoming a garbage man. Ethan has cystic fibrosis and is a huge fan of garbage trucks and the workers that collect our trash everyday.

“I’m gonna try not to cry,” said Sam, a sanitation engineer who has been on the job for 35 years. “I’m excited to see the pure joy on his face. I think it’s wonderful that they are doing all this for him.” Sam said before meeting Ethan.

Ethan rode in the cabin of a garbage truck through Sacramento with Sam.

His day was filled with stops throughout the city as he collected trash, learned about recycling from Captain Recycle and experienced what it takes to keep a city clean. Members of the community such as the fire chief and mayor-elect of Sacramento also visited Ethan.

Thousands of inspired people gathered throughout Ethan’s route to make his wish come true. Several participants held signs that read “World’s Greatest Garbage Man.” Ethan was given an unforgettable experience thanks to the thousands of volunteers and community members that participated.
